BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the UMB Volleyball Invitational.
The Bears (1-2), who went 0-3 at the tournament, were edged by host UMass Boston, 3-2, and bowed to Roger Williams University, 3-0, at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.
UMass Boston 3, Bridgewater State 2 (21-25, 25-6, 25-16, 17-25, 15-10)
The Bears are 10-2 all time against the Beacons with the only other loss in 1992.
BSU won the opening set, 25-21, before dropping the next two, 6-25 and 16-25. The Bears rallied to even the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set.
UMass Boston clinched the victory with a 15-10 win in the deciding set.
Junior Kim Gowell (Durham, N.H.) had 16 kills and three digs for BSU while graduate student Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) added 17 assists and seven digs.
Sophomore Lilly Misay (New Bedford, Mass.) had 14 digs and six assists while sophomore Ava Crane (Dartmouth, Mass.) had 19 digs.
For UMass Boston, junior Ruby Ackerman (Arcadia, Calif.) had 30 assists and eight digs.
Junior Lauren Westlund (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 15 kills and 13 digs while sophomore Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) had 13 kills and seven digs.
Roger Williams 3, Bridgewater State 0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-19)
Roger Williams improved to 5-1 by defeating the Bears, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-19.
Graduate student Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) had 11 assists and seven digs for BSU while sophomore Lilly Misay (New Bedford, Mass.) added 10 digs in the loss.
For Roger Williams, senior Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) had 17 assists while junior Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) contributed 12 assists.
Sophomore Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in with 15 digs and junior Izzy Unsworth (Milford, N.H.) added seven digs.
BSU (1-3) will travel to Providence to play Rhode Island College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Roger Williams is home on Wednesday to play Tufts at 6 p.m.
