BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior outside/middle hitter Lily Welch has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.
Welch averaged 12.67 kills and 2.33 aces while also posting an impressive .516 hitting percentage in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears. The Hanson, Massachusetts product also averaged 13.67 digs, 11 receptions and 2.67 assisted blocks on the week.
Welch notched ten kills, two aces, five receptions, 11 digs and three assisted blocks in a 3-0 MASCAC win over MCLA; 13 kills, two aces, 11 receptions, 19 digs and four assisted blocks in a 3-1 victory over Mitchell; and 15 kills, three aces, 17 receptions, 11 digs and an assisted block in a 3-0 conference triumph over Fitchburg State as the Bears secured the MASCAC regular season title outright.
Through 19 matches this season, Welch has amassed 198 kills, 28 aces, 270 receptions, 233 digs and 36 blocks (3 solo). She presently ranks second among the MASCAC leaders in hitting percentage (.296) and kills per set (3.00) as well as third in scoring (3.72 pps), sixth in digs per set (3.53) and eighth in blocks per set (0.55).
In 59 matches over her first three seasons with the Bears, Welch has produced 518 kills, 57 aces, 540 digs and 112 blocks (27 solo).
The MASCAC weekly honor marks the third of Welch's career.
The BSU volleball team wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 15-4 including a perfect 8-0 MASCAC mark as the Bears captured their 19th conference regular season title and first since 2008. Bridgewater is the top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game on Thursday night at six o'clock.
