McDonough Leads Women's Track & Field at NEICAAA Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Qualifying members of the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team competed during the opening day of the 2024 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the College of the Holy Cross.

Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) finished second in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles, and first among Division III student-athletes, with a season-best time of 14.06 seconds. McDonough, who currently ranks ninth in all of Division III in the event, was just 1/100 of a second shy of her PR of 14.05 recorded last May at the MIT Final Qualifier.

Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) was fifth in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash as she posted a time of 25.22 seconds.

Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) was fifth in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash as she posted an outdoor PR time of 57.26 seconds. Abrantes also finished 15th in the 200 prelims with a time of 25.71 seconds.

Day two of the NEICAAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will get underway tomorrow morning at ten. The meet features teams from all three NCAA Divisions throughout New England.
