Sydney Dewhurst Named to NEWISA All-New England Team
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior defender Sydney Dewhurst has been selected to the 2024 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) NCAA Division III All-New England Team.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior defender Sydney Dewhurst has been selected to the 2024 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) NCAA Division III All-New England Team.
Dewhurst is the only member of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to earn the NEWISA All-New England accolade.
A native of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Dewhurst tallied 11 goals and ten assists for 32 points (all career highs) in 20 games this season. She tied the school record with a four-goal performance against MCLA on November 2nd.
Dewhurst ranked second in the MASCAC in assists, and tied for third in both goals and scoring.
On a national level, Dewhurst finished the season tied for 38th in all of Division III in assists per game (0.50).
For her outstanding performance, Dewhurst was selected to the All-MASCAC First Team for the second straight season and was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year. She was also voted to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer All-Region Two Second Team for the second consecutive season.
In 46 games over three seasons with the Bears, Dewhurst amassed 24 goals and 19 assists for 67 points with five game-winning goals. She ranks seventh among the Bears' all-time scoring leaders with her 67 career points and is tied for fifth in assists.
Dewhurst helped the BSU women's soccer team post a 12-5-3 record in 2024 including a 6-0-1 conference mark as the Bears captured both the MASCAC regular season and tournament titles. The Bears advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth time in program history and first since 2013.
Dewhurst is the first Bear to be recognized with a NEWISA honor since Kaitlin Lamothe was selected to play in the NEWISA Senior Bowl in 2008.
