Hopkins, Curley Named to NWCA Scholar All-American Team
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Michael Hopkins and sophomore Christian Curley have each earned a spot on the 2024-2025 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-American Team.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Michael Hopkins and sophomore Christian Curley have each earned a spot on the 2024-2025 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-American Team.
To earn NWCA Scholar All-American honors, nominees must have an average GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) over the last two semesters or last 3 trimesters, or have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale). On the competition side, wrestlers have to place in the top eight at an NCAA regional tournament or compete in a at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66%.
A native of Swampscott, Massachusetts, Hopkins posted a record of 27-16 (.628) this season with one pin and 49 takedowns to go along with 90 near fall points and 37 escapes. He led the team in wins, takedowns and near fall points.
Hopkins placed sixth in the 174-pound weight class to earn All-Northeast Region honors at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships earlier this month.
In four seasons with the Bears, Hopkins notched an overall record of 57-53 (.518) with three career pins, 100 takedowns, 149 near fall points and 92 escapes.
In the classroom, Hopkins currently sports a cumulative 3.30 grade point average. He is slated to graduate following the 2025 spring semester with a degree in marketing.
Curley, who hails from Bridgewater, Massachusetts, posted a record of 27-11 (.676) this season competing out of the 197-pound weight class with a team-best 13 pins as well as 48 takedowns, 31 near fall points and 27 escapes.
Over his first two seasons at BSU, Curley is 34-25 (.576) with 17 pins, 56 takedowns, 31 near fall points and 59 escapes.
In the classroom, Curley presently sports an impressive 3.88 GPA and is majoring in cybersecurity.
