Ettridge Leads Women's Lacrosse to 12-6 Win over Fitchburg

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) scored a game-high five goals to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 12-6 victory over Fitchburg State University on Saturday at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 9-6 on the season and 5-0 in the MASCAC, while the Falcons fall to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Senior Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) added two goals and an assist for BSU, while freshman Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) dished out a game-best five assists.

Bridgewater scored seven of the first eight goals of the contest and led 7-2 at the break. Five different Bears scored over the opening 30 minutes with Ettridge leading the way with three first-half tallies.

The second half was fairly evenly played, but Fitchburg was never able to get closer than five goals. The Bears' biggest lead of game was 10-3 following a free position strike by senior midfielder Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) at the 13:13 mark of the final stanza.

Senior attack Ali Laferriere (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and recorded a game-high six draw controls to lead the way for the visitors.

The Bears outshot the Falcons by a margin of 22-16 and held a 13-10 advantage in ground balls. Fitchburg finished with a decided 13-6 edge in draw controls.

BSU senior netminder Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) turned aside seven shots to record her seventh win of the season and 37th of her career. Forman is within one victory of the Bears' all-time record of 38 wins held by Meghan Griffin (2008-2010).

Sophomore goaltender Marguerite Belcher (Quincy, Mass.) made four saves in the setback for the Falcons.

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams on Wednesday. The Bears travel to Salem State University for a four o'clock game with the Vikings, while the Falcons head to Worcester State University to take on the Lancers at seven.

Notes: With her three points, Renauld moved into fourth place on the Bears' all-time scoring list. She now has 307 points (212 G, 95 A) in 75 career games at Bridgewater State.
