Women's Lacrosse Downs Eastern Connecticut, 20-10

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's lacrosse team knocked off non-conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University, 20-10, this afternoon in Bridgewater.

The host Bears improve to 12-4 with the victory, while Eastern slips to 6-9.  Bridgewater State has won eight straight games and nine of their last ten.

Sophomore attack Kristin White (Pelham, MA) paced Bridgewater State with six goals and two assists, while junior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) scored five goals.  Senior midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA) added three goals and two assists to go along with six draw controls.

Jones became just the second player in BSC women's lacrosse history to reach the 200-goal milestone as she now has 203 in her career.  Manning's two assists gives her 47 on the season and 146 in her career.  The Bears' single-season assist mark is 49 set by Manning in 2008.  Paula Habel (2000-2003) holds the all-time program record with 152 assists.

BSC senior netminder Meghan Griffin (Billerica, MA) turned aside eight shots as she set the Bears' all-time goaltending mark with her 35th career victory.

Senior midfielder Taylor MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, MA) led the way for Eastern Connecticut with two goals and a helper.  Senior attack Brooke Wayte (Bellport, NY), freshman midfielder Daniela Marchitto (Orange, CT) and junior attack Ashley Del Vecchio (Fairfield, CT) added two goals apiece for the Warriors.

Freshman goaltender Nancy Ibrahim (Lindenhurst, NY) made five saves between the pipes for Eastern.

Bridgewater State held a 34-21 shot advantage for the game while draw controls were even at 15 apiece.  Bridgewater went 6-for-8 in free position shots, while Eastern connected on just 2 of 6.

The Bears held a 10-3 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the first half.  Eastern, however, tallied four of the final six goals of the half, including three in a row, to close the gap to 12-7 at the intermission.

Bridgewater's defense limited the Warriors to just three goals on eight shots in the second half as the Bears pulled away for the 20-10 victory.  Two of the three goals came in the last six minutes with Bridgewater already comfortably ahead.

Bridgewater wraps up regular season play at home on Saturday as the Bears entertain New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) opponent Framingham State College.  With a win over the Rams, Bridgewater will earn a share of the NEWLA regular season crown.

Eastern Connecticut hosts Little East Conference rival Rhode Island College also on Saturday.  If Eastern and Keene State College both win, there will be a three-way tie for first place in the final LEC standings.
