BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week and fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman center Emilie von der Linden has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.
von der Linden averaged 9.5 points, seven rebounds, one steal and three blocked shots in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears. The Sanbornville, New Hampshire product tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, a steal and four blocks in a 56-47 MASCAC win on the road over Salem State; and notched eight points, six rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks in the 65-46 conference victory over Anna Maria.
Through 20 games this season, all starts, von der Linden is averaging 11 points, 8.6 rebounds (2.6 offensive) and 2.1 blocks while shooting 53.5% (91-170) from the floor and 66.1% (37-56) at the free throw line. She currently leads the MASCAC in blocked shots and ranks second among the conference leaders in field goal percentage and double-doubles (6) as well as fourth in rebounding, sixth in made field goals and seventh in offensive rebounding.
On a national level, von der Linden ranks among the top 30 student-athletes in all of Division III in total blocked shots (42) and among the top 35 in blocks per game.
von der Linden also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors back on December 15th, January 12th and January 26th as well as February 2nd.
The BSU women's basketball team is currently 11-9 on the season and a perfect 10-0 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears entertain non-conference opponent Connecticut College this evening at five o'clock.
