Dziadyk Twins Lead Women's Basketball to 88-72 Win over Suffolk

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior guard Olivia Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) notched her first collegiate triple double, and twin sister Hannah Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) poured in a career-high 27 points to lead the Bridgewater State University women's basketball team to an 88-72 victory over visiting Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears improve to 2-0 on the young season, while the Rams fall to 1-1.

Olivia Dziadyk scored ten points and recorded career-highs with 16 rebounds (four offensive) and 11 assists to go along with three steals.

Hannah Dziadyk connected on 8 of 12 field goal attempts, including 7-for-10 from three-point range, and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line in 23 minutes off the bench. She also grabbed five rebounds. The seven three-pointers equaled her career high.

Junior guard Sydney Bradbury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) added 18 points and four rebounds for the Bears.

Graduate guard Jenni-Rose DiCecco (Falmouth, Mass.) paced the visiting Rams with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman guard Maddie Steward (Conway, N.H.) checked in with 14 points and seven rebounds on 19 minutes off the bench for Suffolk, while grad forward Gabriella DeComo (Portsmouth, R.I.) tallied 13 points and senior forward Emily Welling (Warwick, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with ten points and a game-high 18 rebounds (six offensive).

The first quarter featured three ties and four lead changes as score was knotted at 21-21 after ten minutes of play. Bridgewater scored the first five points of the second period and maintained a lead throughout the session as the Bears took a 43-36 advantage into the break.

The Bears shot 38% from the floor over the first 20 minutes and went 6-for-17 from three-point range and 5-for-6 at the free throw line. The Rams connected on 36% (13-36) of their field goal attempts, including 4-for-11 from behind the arc, over the first two quarters and missed five free throws (6-for-11).

The Dziadyk's tallied eight points apiece in the first half, while DiCecco led all players with 12.

Bridgewater used a 12-4 run over the first four minutes of the third quarter, highlighted by a pair of Bradbury trifectas, to take a 12-point lead (45-33). The Rams pulled to within seven (57-50) following a Stewart layup, but the Bears took control of the game with a 13-2 run late in the period to open up their biggest lead of the game at 18 points (70-52). Hannah Dziadyk scored eight point including a pair of three-pointers during the key spurt. Suffolk would get no closer than ten the rest of the way.

The Bears shot 54% (14-26) from the floor in the second half including 7-for-9 from behind the arc.

The BSU defense forced 19 turnovers and limited the Rams to 35% (25-75) shooting for the game. Suffolk converted just 4 of 17 (24%) three-point field goal attempts and went just 16-for-27 (59%) at the free throw line.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University next Tuesday night at seven, while the Rams travel to Salem State University on Monday night to take on the Vikings also at seven.
