BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior guard Michaela Cosby has been selected to compete in the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic which will be hosted by Western New England University on Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 PM.
Players from around the region were nominated for the honor by their coaches and Sports Information Directors. Coaches then select the 22 participants through a vote.
Cosby averaged 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.8 steals in 25 games this season as she helped lead the BSU women's basketball team to their second straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season title and third consecutive MASCAC Tournament title. The Walpole, Massachusetts native also shot 50.7% (150-296) from the field and 71.4% (75-105) at the free throw line for the Bears who made their third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Cosby ranked third in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio (1.3), and fourth in assists. She also finished sixth in the conference in scoring, eighth in steals, ninth in free throw shooting and tenth in rebounds.
A two-time All-MASCAC First Team selection (2012, 2013), Cosby amassed 1,092 points, 563 rebounds, 262 assists, 226 steals and 47 blocked shots over 101 career games. She ranks seventh all-time in BSU women's basketball history with her 1,092 points.
The BSU women's basketball team posted a record of 23-4 in 2012-2013 with an 11-1 mark in MASCAC play. The 23 victories marked the second highest single-season win total in program history.
Earlier this week, Cosby was named as a First Team selection to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Basketball All-Star Team.
Cosby is one of four players from the MASCAC competing in the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic. She is joined by fellow seniors Jenny Bell of Westfield State University, Meaghan O'Keefe of Worcester State University and MCLA's Lucy Tremblay.
