BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore shortstop Aubrey Carberry has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.
A native of North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Carberry batted .500 (11-22) with two doubles, three triples, a stolen base, seven runs scored and 12 RBI in a 6-2 week for the Bears at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Little River, South Carolina. She also posted an .864 slugging percentage.
Carberry went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples, two runs and two RBI in a 10-2 win over Penn State-Abington; 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and three RBI in an 8-1 victory over Cairn; 2-for-3 with a double, run and two RBI in a 7-0 shutout of Lycoming; 3-for-3 with a double, run and and two RBI in a 5-3 triumph over Thiel; and 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs in a 13-8 setback to Penn State-Altoona. She also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in an 8-0 shutout of Penn State-Beaver and recorded two sacrifice flies in an 8-0 shutout of Valley Forge..
Through ten games this season, Carberry is batting .448 (13-29) with two doubles, three triples, two stolen bases, seven runs and 13 RBI. She presently leads the MASCAC in both runs batted in and sacrifice flies (3), and is tied for the lead (along with teammate Makayla Ansell) in hits. She is also second among the conference leaders in triples, tied for third in extra base hits (along with teammate Angelina Lynch), tied for fourth in doubles, and ranks fifth in slugging percentage (.724) as well as seventh in batting
The BSU softball team is currently 6-4 on the young season. The Bears travel to Salve Regina University on Saturday for a noontime doubleheader with the Seahawks.
