BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Matthew Mooney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. Mooney shares this week's honor with freshman Paulino Guevara Mateo of Fitchburg State University.

Mooney captured the MASCAC individual title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 22.05 seconds and ran a leg on the conference champion 4x100-meter relay team (42.58) this past weekend at the MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Fitchburg State. The Douglas, Massachusetts product also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.05 seconds as he helped the Bears capture their eighth straight MASCAC outdoor title and 11th overall.

The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the fourth of Mooney's career and third outdoor distinction.

The outdoor season continues for the BSU men's track & field team on Friday and Saturday as the Bears will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.
