BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Lamont Haynes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.
Haynes placed fourth in the 400-meter dash at the MIT Last Chance Qualifier last week with a time of 48.76 seconds. The Boston, Massachusetts product also ran a leg on the Bears' 4x400-meter relay which placed second at the meet with a school record time of 3:18.15.
The Bears' 4x400 relay squad featuring Haynes, fellow freshmen Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and junior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) eclipsed their own previous BSU outdoor mark of 3:19.05 set earlier this season at the Division III New England Championships.
Haynes finished the 2017 outdoor season ranked 29th in all of Division III in the 400-meter hurdles, while the 4x400 is 64th overall.
