Espinosa Captures Meet Title, Sets 200 Mark at NEICAAA Championships
BOSTON, Mass. -- Senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) captured the meet title in the 200-meter dash and broke his own school record in the event to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team at the 2015 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships hosted by Boston University on Saturday.
BOSTON, Mass. -- Senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) captured the meet title in the 200-meter dash and broke his own school record in the event to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team at the 2015 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships hosted by Boston University on Saturday.
Espinosa posted a finals time of 21.62 seconds in the 200 as he eclipsed his previous BSU indoor mark of 21.77 seconds set last season at the NCAA Division III Championships.
Espinosa, who was one of three Bears to garner All-NEICAAA honors, also ran a leg on BSU's record-setting 4x400-meter relay which posted a time of 3:19.14 to finish ninth overall. Espinosa, fellow seniors Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) and Chris Naughton (Braintree, Mass.), and junior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) eclipsed the previous mark of 3:22.32 set at last season's NEICAAA Championships.
Junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles to earn All-NEICAAA accolades. Murtagh posted a finals time of 8.10 seconds.
Senior Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' All-New England performers. Chukwu placed third in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 6.92 seconds.
The Bears finished 13th (22 pts.) in the team standings at the meet which featured competition from all three NCAA divisions in New England.
Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU track & field teams will head to the New Balance Track & Field Center in New York City to compete at the ECAC Division III Championships.
