Horan, Cawley Lead Men's Indoor Track at New England DIII Championships
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass.) captured the regional title in the 55-meter hurdles to lead the Bears at the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Springfield.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass.) captured the regional title in the 55-meter hurdles to lead the Bears at the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Springfield.
Horan posted a preliminary time of 7.95 seconds and then won the event with a school record time of 7.80 seconds in the finals. He eclipsed his own BSU indoor mark of 7.88 seconds set last weekend at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.
Also earning All-New England honors for the Bears was sophomore Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) in the shot put. Cawley recorded a distance of 48 feet, 0.50 inches (14.64 meters) to finish in fourth place in the event. He just missed his school record distance of 48 feet, 0.75 inches (14.65 meters) set earlier this season at the Tuft Invitational II.
The Bears finished in 15th place in the team standings with 15 points. MIT won the meet won the meet with 114 points followed by Williams College (112 pts) and host Springfield College (74 pts).
Freshman Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) added a 12th place finish in the triple jump (42'4.75"), while sophomore Felix Mensah (Lowell, Mass.) placed tenth in the 55-meter dash (6.69 seconds) and 16th in the 200 (23.66 seconds).
