BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week and fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Will Horton has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.
A native of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Horton went 1-1 in number one singles competition and was 2-0 at second doubles in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears.
Horton notched a 6-3, 6-1 straight set win over Quentin Wilkins at #1 singles and teamed with senior Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) for a 6-2 triumph at second doubles in the Bears' 6-1 Little East victory over Salem State University. He also dropped a tough 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 decision to Dominik Dwyer at the top singles flight in the Bears' 5-2 LEC victory over UMass Boston, and paired with Hebert for a 6-2 triumph at second doubles against the Beacons.
In BSU's 11 matches this season, Horton is 6-4 (3-1 LEC) in singles play competing exclusively at the top flight as well as 7-3 (4-0 LEC) in second doubles competition.
The BSU men's tennis team is currently 7-4 on the season and 4-0 in the Little East. The Bears host Rhode Island College in a key LEC match on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30. The two teams are tied for first in the Little East standings.
