Men's Swimming Splits Tri-Meet with Brandeis, Keene State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior Desmond Ng (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) was a triple-winner for the Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team on Saturday afternoon.

Ng placed first in three individual events and was also part of a relay teawm that finished first.

The Bears defeated Little East foe Keene State University by a healthy margin of 192-77, and dropped a tough 139-138 decision to Brandeis University at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Swimming Pool and are now 2-3.

Ng finished first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.28 second and was also first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.11.

His third win came in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:23.33.

Ng teamed with senior Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.), junior Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.) and freshman James Hein (Holliston, Mass.) to win the 400 medley relay.

Diver Robbie Soucy (Frye Island, Maine) won both events for the Bears.

The senior had 170.75 points in 1-meter diving and 164.65 points in 3-meter diving.

The 200-meter freestyle relay team won in 1:31.33. The team included Saengthong, freshman Leo Hachem (New Bedford, Mass.), freshman Wilco Zbitnoff (Haverhill, Mass.) and Hein, who was also second in the 100 butterfly.

Zbitnoff was second in the 50 backstroke in 26.80 and the 100 backstroke in 57.39 while McKenzie took second in the 50 freestyle in 23.17 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.17.

Saengthong placed second in the 100 freestyle in 49.29 and was third in the 500 freestyle in 5:24.76.

Senior Jacob Jope (East Freetown, Mass.) placed third in the 1,000 freestyle and the 100 butterfly.

Hachem took third in the 50 freestyle while senior Richard Palanza (Mansfield, Mass.) and sophomore Oleksandr Lysyi (Boston, Mass.) were second and third in the 50 butterfly.

BSU is right back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. at Bentley University.
