Men's Swimming & Diving Captures BSU Invitational Title, Fowler Sets 200 Fly Mark

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Three Bridgewater State University swimmers won three individual events each as the Bears men's swimming & diving team once again finished first at the BSU Invitational.

Junior Aaron Fowler (Brookline, Mass.) had three three individual wins, broke one of his school records and was part of two winning relay teams at the Mary Jo Moriarty Swimming Pool.

Junior Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.) was also on two winning relay teams in addition to posting three individual wins.

Senior Desmond Ng (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) won three events and was part of a relay win.

The Bears, who have won the BSU Invitational six straight seasons, had 813 points to finish ahead of Gordon College (183) and Plymouth State (179).

Fowler established a new BSU record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.56, breaking his own mark of 1:55.91 set in 2024.

Fowler was also first in the 100 individual medley in 54.06 seconds and in the 50 backstroke with a time of 25.15 seconds.

He was on the 200 medley relay team that won in 1:37.25, joining Ng, Saengthong and senior Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.).

Fowler also swam on the 400 freestyle relay team that won in 3:14.13, joining Saengthong, freshman James Hein (Holliston, Mass.) and freshman Wilco Zbitnoff (Haverhill, Mass.).

Saengthong won the 50 butterfly in 23.46 seconds and took first in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.62 while also winning the 100 butterfly in 52.19 seconds.

Ng took the 100 breaststroke in 57.86 seconds and the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.64 while capturing the 50 breaststroke in 27.30.

Zbitnoff was a winner in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.43 and the 200 backstroke in 2:03.72. He also finished second in the 50 backstroke.

Junior Sean Taylor (South Dennis, Mass.) was a double winner, taking the 500 freestyle in 5:36.20 and the 1,650 freestyle in 19:39.58.

Hein finished first in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.82 and was second in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke.

Junior Drew Lawrence (Winchendon, Mass.) had a time of 4:33.75 to win the 400 individual medley and was second in the 100 IM and third in the 200 butterfly.

BSU will return to action on Jan. 17 when it hosts a tri-meet with Brandeis and Keene State.
