WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Freshman Matthew Jo (Tewksbury, Mass.) captured the meet title in the 1,000 freestyle to lead the Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team during day three of the Little East Conference Championships on Saturday at the Boston Sports Institute.
Jo posted a winning time of in 10:16.69 in the 1,000 to pick up his second LEC individual title in as many days.
Junior Desmond Ng (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) placed second in the 400 individual medley with a finals time of 4:10.52.
Jo and Ng also swam on the Bears' 800 freestyle relay squad which posted a time of 7:24.47 to placed second in the event. They were joined by senior Michael Losardo (Pittsfield, Mass.) and junior Richard Palanza (Mansfield, Mass.).
Junior Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) added a second-place performance in the 100 breaststroke as he posted a finals time of 59.50 seconds.
Sophomore Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top-three placewinners on Saturday. Saengthong finished third in the 50 butterfly with a finals time of 23.50 seconds.
Jo, Ng, McKenzie, Saengthong and the members of the 800 freestyle relay team garnered All-Little East honors by placing in the top three at the conference championship meet.
The BSU men's swimming & diving team is in second place after day three of the LEC championships.
The three-time defending champion Bears have amassed 511 points as they trail Eastern Connecticut State University (591 pts.) and Maine Maritime Academy (548.5 pts.) in the team standings
The four-day championship meet concludes on Sunday with preliminary events getting underway at 10:00 AM.
