Men's Soccer Falls to Wentworth, 5-2

BOSTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Erik Treble (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) netted a hat trick to lead the Wentworth men's soccer team to a 5-2 non-conference victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field.

The Leopards, who improve to 2-2-1 on the season, scored three goals in a span of 22 minutes in the second half to break a 2-2 tie.

The Bears fall to 0-5-1 with their third straight setback.

While both teams had chances to score in the first half, it was Wentworth who took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute. Senior Cameron Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.), who had just entered the game, scored off a John Dauphin (Yorba Linda, Calif.) corner kick.

Bridgewater State freshman David Nelson (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal just over six minutes into the second half to knot the game at 1-1. Nelson took a feed from senior Justin Borges (Milford, Mass.) and buried a shot it inside the left post.

Just 59 seconds later, however, Dauphin served a corner kick to Treble to give the Black & Gold a 2-1 lead.

Bridgewater State quickly answered in the 58th minute as freshman Noah Jacques (Greenfield, Mass.) notched his first collegiate goal. Jacques redirected a Shane Ebanks (Upton, Mass.) free kick into the back of the net to even the score at two-all.

Treble broke the tie just 33 seconds later (57:44) off an assist from freshman Augustin Edwin, Jr. (New Bedford, Mass.). Edwin Jr. sent a long ball to Treble who deposited a shot inside the right post.

Edwin, Jr., notched his first collegiate goal in the 61st minute when he collected a pass from sophomore Kaleb Gebremeskel (Georgetown, Texas) in the middle and found the back of the net.

Junior Juan Cedeno (North Andover, Mass.) was credited with the helper on Treble's third goal, which came in the 80th minute. Cedeno sent a cross in from the left side where Treble found the inside of the right post.

Wentworth finished with a 20-8 shot advantage as well as a 6-3 edge in corner kick attempts.

Sophomore Robbie West (Weymouth, Mass.) made six saves to pick up his second win of the season between the pipes for the Leopards.

Senior Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned aside six shots in just over 80 minutes of action (80:06) for the Bears. Classmate Michael Da Silva (Milford, Mass.) played the final 9:54 and did not face a shot on goal.

Today's game marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Wentworth hosts MIT on Wednesday night at seven. Bridgewater State is off until next Friday night when the Bears open Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on the road at MCLA.
