Men's Soccer Falls to Babson, 1-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Babson College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night at windy Swenson Field.

The Beaver improve to 9-8 on the season, while the host Bears fall to 5-9-3. The game marked the final regular season home contest for Bridgewater State as seniors Colin Golden (Mansfield, Mass.), Colby LeSage (Maynard, Mass.) and Cody Shannon (Norton, Mass.) were honored.

Junior defender Jackson Greenspan (Meriden, N.H.) scored the game's only goal in the 75th minute as he drove a shot from 28 yards out inside the right post. Sophomore midfielder Luke Beaulieu (Westfield, N.J.) and senior midfielder Logan Ventura (Pittstown, N.J.) assisted on Greenspan's third goal of the season.

Babson finished with a 16-7 shot advantage as well as a 7-1 edge in corner kick attempts.

Senior netminder James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.) was forced to make just one save to record his sixth win and third shutout of the season for the Beavers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michael DaSilva (Milford, Mass.) made four saves in the setback for the Bears. DaSilva, who was making his first start and appearance of the 2017 season, made a terrific diving stop in the 57th minute on a shot by Ventura from the left side to keep it a scoreless game at the time.

Bridgewater's best scoring opportunity came in the opening minutes of the second half as junior midfielder Kessy Alves' (Brockton, Mass.) point-blank range shot from ten yards out was easily turned aside by Takami.

The Beavers nearly scored in the 37th minute when a shot by junior defender Peter Berens (Belmont, Mass.) hit the crossbar and the rebound attempt by Ventura slid wide of the right post.

Both teams wrap up regular season play later this week. The Bears travel to MCLA on Friday evening for a six o'clock MASCAC game with the Trailblazers. A BSU win or tie would secure a spot in next week's MASCAC Tournament. The Beavers are also on the road as they take on NEWMAC rival Coast Guard Academy on Saturday at noon.
