Michael Lofton Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Lofton shares the weekly honor along with Worcester State senior forward Dane Jobst.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Lofton shares the weekly honor along with Worcester State senior forward Dane Jobst.
A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Lofton posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the Bears’ only game on the week, a 76-68 setback to regional rival Rhode Island College. He also added five steals and four assists against the Anchormen.
Through four games this season, Lofton is averaging 16.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 3.2 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. He leads the MASCAC in field goal percentage (.683) and ranks second in steals and fifth in scoring. Lofton is also tied for third in the conference in rebounding and tied for tenth in assists.
In 57 games over three seasons with the Bears, Lofton has amassed 631 points, 429 rebounds, 81 blocked shots and 109 steals. He is also a career 62.9% (248-for-394) shooter from the floor. Lofton is presently ahead of Derek Thompson’s (2003-07) all-time BSU field goal percentage mark of 58.8% (318-541).
In upcoming action, Lofton and his teammates will host Southeastern Massachusetts rival Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon at one.
