BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior midfielder Shelby Farland has been named to the 2012 WomensFieldHockey.com All-America Third Team.

Farland is the only respresentative from the Little East Conference (LEC) selected to the All-America Team.  Freshman Cory Connolly of UMass Dartmouth was chosen to the All-Rookie Team.

One of the top players in BSU field hockey history, Farland established single-season program records for goals and scoring in 2012 as she finished the year with 32 goals and 13 assists for 77 points.  She eclipsed the previous standards of 29 goals and 60 points set by BSU Hall of Famer Karen Croteau in 1982.

Farland, who hails from Fiskdale, Massachusetts product was the catalyst for the 15th-ranked scoring offense in Division III in 2012, ranking among the national leaders in goals per game (5th, 1.45) and points per game (8th, 3.50).

A starter in all 22 matches, Farland scored at least one goal in 17 games this season, and recorded at least one point in 20 games.  She wraps up a brilliant career ranked second all-time in program history in goals (60) and points (145), and is tied with former standout Bethany Bush for the career lead in assists (25).

Farland became the first player in BSU field hockey history to garner Little East Offensive Player of the Years honors.  She was also named to the All-LEC First Team after receiving second team recognition as a junior in 2011.

The 2012 BSU field hockey team broke the program records for wins and goals in a season as the Bears posted a record of 18-4 on the season with an impressive 82 goals scored. Bridgewater finished second in the Little East standings and advanced to the LEC Tournament semifinals. The Bears were also selected to compete in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament for the third straight year and fourth time in the past six years.

Earlier this month, Farland was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-New England West Region First Team and was selected to play in the NFHCA Division III Senior Game which was held at Williams Smith College in Geneva, New York on November 17th.
