STORRS, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University equestrian team continued its success at a pair of shows on Sunday hosted by the University of Connecticut at Horsebarn Hill.
To start the day off, junior Abigail Abbott (Wareham, Mass.) hopped on Bella for the UCONN Blue Show in open flat and placed third. Abbott also rode in Calvin in open fences and placed Third. In the UCONN White Show, Abbott guided Peppe in open flat placing second. She continued that success into open fences placing fifth on Kirby.
For her performances on Sunday, Abbott secured her spot at regionals in open flat.
Senior Emily Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) competed in the Blue Show and rode T.J. in open flat and placed second. Desmond then rode Peppe in open flat in the White Show and captured top honors in the event while earning a spot at regionals. She also rode in intermediate fences on Kirby placing fifth.
Junior Alyson McKeon (Worcester, Mass.) rode Charlie in the Intermediate flat during the Blue Show and placed sixth. McKeon hopped on Charlie again for intermediate flat and placed third.
Carrying on the success was sophomore Julia Max (Salem, N.H.) making her Intermediate Fences debut on Bella in the Blue Show while picking up the Blue Ribbon. Max's also rode success T.J. in intermediate Fences during the White Show and continued onto limit flat in the Blue Show riding Ziva and placing second officially qualifying for regionals.
Junior Melanie Schick-Fernandez (Abington, Mass.) hoped on Tesla in Blue Show in limit flat placing second also qualifying for regionals.
Sophomore Becky Costa (Foxborough, Mass.) rode in novice on Kash placing sixth adding another rider qualifying for regionals.
Freshman Angelina Ferrara (Dartmouth, Mass.) made her novice debut riding Noah and placing forth in the Blue Show. She guided Noah again for the White Show and placed third.F
Freshman Julia Ouellette (Millbury, Mass.) rode in pre-novice on G for the Blue Show placing sixth. Oullette then hopped on Gunther and placed third for the White Show.
Senior Maeve Murray (Marshfield, Mass.) guided Noah in pre-novice placing fifth, and also rode Canto to a third place finish.
Freshman Chelsea Murphy (Raynham, Mass.) hopped on Posey for introductory in the Blue Show and placed third.
Junior Antonina O'Grady (Holbrook, Mass.) was also in introductory, riding in the Blue show she pulled Posey and placed forth. O'Grady guided Shabazz in the White Show placing third.
Freshman Kathryn McCarron (North Attleboro, Mass.) also rode Posey in introductory in the White Show and taking home anothe blue ribbon for the Bears.
The BSU equestrian team will be returning in two weeks at regionals with nine regional qualifiers at Walnut Hill Farm on March 28th.
