BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior Jenna Williamson has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Williamson helped lead the Bears to a perfect 2-0 mark inside the Little East Conference this past week as the Bears downed Rhode Island College and UMass Boston by identical scores of 9-0. The Ludlow, Massachusetts native posted a 2-0 record at top-flight singles and paired up with senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) for two wins at the number one doubles spot.
Williamson earned straight set victories in singles play over her opponents from RIC ( 6-1, 6-1) and UMass (6-2, 6-1). In doubles play, she teamed with Hopp for a pair of 8-4 decisions versus the Anchorwomen and the Beacons.
With her two singles victories, Williamson stretched her winning streak versus conference foes to an impressive 24 matches as she is a perfect 24-0 in singles play against Little East foes through her first three seasons with the Bears.
Williamson is currently 7-1 on the year in top-flight singles play with a 4-0 conference mark. She is also 8-3 with a 4-0 LEC record competing at first doubles with Hopp.
In her three seasons on the BSU women’s tennis team, Williamson has produced an astounding 33-4 (.892) record in singles play as well as a 32-14 (.696) mark in doubles. In 2011, she garnered Little East Conference Player of the Year honors and was selected to the All-Little East Team for the second straight year.
This marks the fourth LEC Offensive Player of the Week award for Williamson who also garnered the honor twice last season as well as once earlier this year.
The BSU women’s tennis team (6-2, 4-0 LEC) will host conference foe UMass Dartmouth (8-0, 5-0 LEC) on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 from the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. The Bears trail the Corsairs by a half game in the Little East standings.
