Women's Tennis Downs Worcester State, 9-0, in Little East Action

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season as the Bears downed Little East Conference foe Worcester State University, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

Bridgewater improves to 3-0 (2-0 LEC) on the season with the win, while Worcester slips to 1-2 overall (0-1 LEC).  The Bears won all three doubles matches and each of the six singles flights.

Bridgewater's top flight doubles tandem of junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) posted an 8-1 win, while seniors Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) and Brittney Hislop (Burley, WA) won 8-4 at second doubles.  Freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) added an 8-4 victory at the third doubles flight.

Williamson led the way in singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at the top flight. The Bears also received straight set victories from Pereira at second singles, Hislop at number three, Vautrin at the fourth spot, Hopp at number five, and freshman Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) at the sixth flight.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon.  Bridgewater entertains Suffolk University while Worcester hosts Becker College.  Both matches start at 3:30.
