MEDFORD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) added to her successful final indoor track & field season on Saturday.

Abrantes set a school record while winning a pair of races for the Bears at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University at Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center.

BSU senior Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) was also a winner for the Bears, who were one of seven collegiate teams at the meet.

Abrantes was first in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter race. It marks the second year in a row she won those two events at the meet held at Tufts.

Abrantes took the 60 in 7.66 seconds, breaking the mark set last year by Alison McDonough with a time of 7.69.

In the 200, Abrantes finished in 25.04 seconds to outdistance the field.

Earlier this season, Abrantes won the 300-meter race at the Suffolk Relays and the 400 at the Mini-Meet hosted by Boston University.

Cass was the winner in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:13.78.

She placed first by 32 seconds over senior Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) of Fitchburg State University.

It was Cass' first competition of the season after making it to the NCAA Division III Championships in cross country during the fall.

BSU sophomore Grace Inacio (Taunton, Mass.) placed third in a pair of events.

Inacio was third in the 60 with a time of 7.77 seconds and in that same spot in the 200 with a time of 25.62.

Sophomore Bella Grover (Warren, Mass.) was a second-place finisher in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:05.26.

Graduate student Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) took fourth place in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 2 1/4 inches.

Junior Janelle Murphy (Brockton, Mass.) was fifth in the 5,000 with a time of 22:02.99 and graduate student Lisa Jaeger (Halle Saale, Germany) was sixth with a time of 22:28.54.

BSU is back in action Saturday at 9:30 a.m. when it takes part in the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT.
