BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Kira Gilbreath has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. GEICO is a proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.
A native of West Haven, Utah, Gilbreath placed fourth in the shot put this past weekend at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet with a toss of 42 feet, 0.75 inches (12.82m).
Gilbreath completed the 2018-2019 indoor season ranked 34th in all of Division III in the shot put and third among Division III New England student-athletes.
The MASCAC weekly honor marks the eighth of Gilbreath’s career including seven indoor distinctions. She was a two-time MASCAC champion in the shot put in 2017-2018, as well as the conference title holder in the weight throw (indoor) and hammer throw (outdoor). Last month at the 2019 MASCAC Indoor Championships, Gilbreath successfully defended her shot put title.
Gilbreath captured the New England crown in the shot put at the Division III New England Outdoor Championships last spring and qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the event. She also earned USTFCCCA All-New England honors in the shot put for both the 2017-2018 indoor and outdoor seasons.
