BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Jayci Andrews has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Andrews broke her own school record and won the meet title in the 60-meter hurdles at the Tufts Invitational this past weekend. The Plymouth, Massachusetts product posted a preliminary time of 9.03 seconds to eclipse her previous school indoor mark of 9.06 seconds set back in December at the season-opening UMass Boston Open. She won the event with a finals time of 9.13 seconds.
Andrews also finished third in the 200-meter dash (27.14) and ran a leg on the Bears’ first place 4x200-meter relay along with sophomore Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) and juniors Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.). The foursome recorded a season-best time of 1:50.91.
Andrews currently ranks second in New England in the hurdles and third in all of Division III. She is also fifth in New England in the 400 and 19th in Division III.
Andrews has qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the hurdles, 200 and 400. She has also qualified for the NEICAAA Championships in the hurdles.
The MASCAC Athlete of the Week honor marks the 12th of Andrews' career including eight indoor distinctions.
The schedule continues for the BSU women's indoor track & field team on Saturday as the Bears compete at the Wheaton Invitational.
