Buonanducci, Carl, Chrispin Highlight Bears' NEWA Award Winners

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Three members of the Bridgewater State University wrestling team were honored by the New England Wrestling Association for their performances this season.

Freshmen Avery Carl (Bridport, Vt.) and Ethan Buonanducci (Enfield, Conn.) received both All-NEWA honorable mention plus spots on the NEWA All-Rookie team.

Senior Malcolm Chrispin (Hyde Park, Mass.) also received All-NEWA honorable mention.

Carl finished fourth at 157 pounds at the NCAA Division III Region One tournament at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a 4-2 record.

Carl went 24-18 with 17 pins and 38 takedowns in his first collegiate season. Carl ranks fourth all-time in pins in a season at BSU and second behind coach Frank Cammisa (21, 2006-07) in pins by a Bears' rookie.

Buonanducci placed fifth at 133 pounds at the NCAA Region One tourney with a 4-2 record.

For the season, he was 33-12 with 67 takedowns and nine pins.

Chrispin was seventh at the NCAA Region One tourney, going 4-2 at 141 pounds.

He finished 18-12 with 30 takedowns this season and was a member of the all-rookie team in 2023-24.

Chrispin and Carl were among nine BSU wrestlers chosen to the NEWA All-Academic team.

They are joined by seniors Sei Dolomengi (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Alex Guaman Castro (Milford, Mass.); juniors Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.), Paul Hough (Milford, Mass.) and Adam Distasio (Hopkinton, Mass.); sophomore Anthony Ashe (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Daniel Sullivan (Framingham, Mass.).

To earn a spot on the NEWA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and be nominated by their head coach.
