Women's Lacrosse Falls to Plymouth State, 15-7

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Bridgewater State University had its two-game winning streak halted in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Morgan Cunningham (Wrentham, Mass.) scored five goals to lead Plymouth State University to a 15-7 victory over the Bears at Panther Field.

BSU (3-7) fell behind, 9-3, after one period and was behind, 15-5, entering the final 15 minutes.

Sophomore Sophia Fleurent (Fairhaven, Mass.) had a pair of goals and an assist for BSU while teammate Lizzy Deacon (Amesbury, Mass.), a sophomore, also scored twice.

Freshmen Karina Bosco (North Dighton, Mass.) and Evelyn Goudreau (Topsham, Maine) netted three goals each for the Panthers (3-5).

BSU has lost 11 of the last 13 meetings with Plymouth State.

The Bears were behind, 4-2, with 8:38 left in the first period after getting two goals from Deacon less than two minutes apart.

Plymouth State had received goals from junior Sammy Murphy (Harrisville, R.I.), Cunningham, Bosco and Goudreau in the opening 5:45.

The Panthers widened the lead to 7-2 on goals by sophomore Gracie Menicci (Pepperell, Mass.), Cunningham and Caroline Purcell in a span of 2:15 before senior Katie Lamothe (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored for BSU.

Cunningham and Bosco had unassisted goals in the final 1:44 for the 9-3 lead.

The Bears trailed, 11-3, after Cunningham had two more unassisted goals in the first 4:18 of the second period, and Fleurent had BSU's lone goal of the period as the Bears were behind, 11-4, at the midway point.

BSU was outscored, 4-1, in the third period, getting only a goal from freshman Kate Fitzpatrick (Methuen, Mass.). Goudreau scored twice while freshman Olivia Thibert (Dighton, Mass.) and Bosco had goals in the period for the Panthers.

The Bears had the only two goals of the final 15 minutes with senior Meredith Sylvia (South Dartmouth, Mass.) and Fleurent scoring 45 seconds apart.

Freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Snow (Peabody, Mass.) stopped 10 shots for the Panthers.

Sophomore Sara Skaff (Lowell, Mass.) had one save for the Bears while junior Gianna Scarpelli (Medford, Mass.) had six saves in 45 minutes.

Plymouth finished with a 36-24 shot advantage as well as a slight 12-11 edge in draw controls.

Fleurent led all players with five draw controls while Sylvia notched four. Sylvia also forced three turnovers.

BSU will play a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at noon, hosting Worcester State at Mazzaferro Field.

Plymouth State hosts Western Connecticut State on Saturday at 11 a.m.
