Women's Lacrosse Falls to Fredonia State, 15-8

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-8 decision to Fredonia State University on Friday at Lake Lytal Park.

The Bears fall to 0-2 with the loss, while the Blue Devils improve to 2-1.

Bridgewater led 5-4 at the intermission, but an 8-0 run to start the second half changed the complexion of the game. The Blue Devils limited BSU to just three goals in the final stanza as they outscored the Bears, 11-3, over the final 30 minutes.

Maddison Frink (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Karli Brinthaupt (Horseheads, N.Y.) finished with three goals apiece for Fredonia while Frink also added two assists. Rachael Reinis (Webster, N.Y.) filled up the stat sheet with two goals, four assists, six draw controls, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls. Casey Chiesa (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) finished with five saves.

Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) and Sammi Salverio (Hanson, Mass.) paced Bridgewater with two goals apiece, while Victoria Moore (Duxbury, Mass.) turned aside nine shots between the pipes. Clancy also added a ground ball and draw control.

Bridgewater put together a solid defensive effort in the first half as the Bears forced the Blue Devils into 21 fouls compared to just three for the Bears. Fredonia was also unable to convert on its only two free position shots of the opening 30 minutes. After turning the ball over nine times in the first half, the Blue Devils registered just one turnover in the final stanza.

Fredonia held a 28-15 shot advantage for the game including a 19-9 edge in the second half.
