MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Bridgewater State University graduate student Corey Stalters earned All-America honors on Thursday afternoon at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Making his third straight appearance at the national outdoor championships, Stalters placed fourth in the javelin out of a field of 22 with a season-best toss of 209 feet, seven inches (63.89m) on his sixth and final throw of the day.
The top eight place winners in each NCAA individual event garner First Team All-America status.
Cody Wheeler of Whitworth University captured the national title in the javelin with a mark of 215 feet, 11 inches (65.81m), while Trey Theobald (213'6"/65.07m) of Ohio Wesleyan University, Damitrius Hester (213'3"/65.00m) of Rowan University, Stalters and Rowan's Thomas Flanagan (206'11"/63.07m) rounded out the top five throwers.
Of the six student-athletes from New England to compete in the javelin at the national championship meet, including three from the MASCAC, Stalters was the only one to advance to the finals. Stalters was sixth after the preliminaries with a throw of 205 feet, two inches (62.54m) which he recorded on his second attempt.
The All-America performance marked the second of Stalter's career as he placed fifth in the javelin at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Bears finished tied for 42nd place in te team standings with five points.
