BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University track and field programs saw ten student-athletes garner Division III All-New England honors as the U.S. Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) handed out its awards for the 2019 outdoor season.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earned all-region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the region’s top three relay teams.
On the women’s side, senior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) earned All-New England accolades in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles, while senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) was recognized for her performance in the shot put.
Both Andrews and Gilbreath will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Champions later on this week. Andrews is seeded first in the 100 hurdles and eighth in the 400 hurdles, while Gilbreath is 18th in the shot put.
For the men’s team, the Bears’ quartet of juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) brought home All-New England honors in the 4x400-meter relay. Higgins also picked up the award for the 800-meter run, while Haynes garnered the distinction for his performance in the 400-meter run.
Junior Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.), sophomore Joshua Moore (Cape May, N.J.) and freshmen Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) and Josh Quinnie (Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' USTFCCCA All-New England honorees. Wysong in the 10,000-meter run, Moore in the javelin, DeAndrade in the 100-meter dash and Quinnie in the 110-meter hurdles.
Moore and Higgins will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week along with junior teammate Ryan Bain (Tewksbury, Mass.). Moore is seeded eighth in the javelin, while Higgins is seeded 15th in the 800 and Bain is 18th in the javelin.
