Stephen Wahome Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Stephen Wahome has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Wahome paced the Bears at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championship as he captured the individual title and earned All-NEICAAA honors in the 10,000-meter run.  Wahome recorded a time of 31:56.89 to win the event.

The Lowell, Massachusetts native holds the Bears’ school record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:17.02, which he set last year. He also owns two more individual indoor records in the 3,000 (8:43.21) and 5,000 (14:54.12) and is a part of three record-holding relay teams, two indoor (4x800, DMR) and one outdoor (4x800).

Earlier this season, Wahome helped lead the BSU men’s outdoor track and field team to the MASCAC and New England Alliance championships as he captured MASCAC individual crowns in both the 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run.  He also won the Alliance individual title in the 10,000 and placed second in the 5,000.

During the winter indoor season, Wahome won MASCAC individual titles in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs.  He also placed first at the MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Championships this past fall and advanced to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in 2011.

The outdoor season continues for Wahome and the BSU men’s track and field team as qualifying members of the team will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College on Thursday and Friday.
