Boston, Mass. --- Sophomore Felix Mensah (Lowell, MA) qualified for the Open New England Championships in the first competition of the season as he clocked 6.58 in the 55 meter dash to help propel the men's indoor track team at the Jay Carisella Invitational hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The meet primarily featured Division I New England teams as there were also some Division II and other Division III teams as well.
Freshman Michael Sukeforth (Middleboro, MA) also had a solid meet as he qualified for the Division III New England Championships with a time of 2:35.38 in the 1000. Junior Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, MA) also had a top-10 finish in the 1,000 as he took seventh (2:41.93).
Freshman Matt Horan (Billerica, MA) rounded out the group to qualify for the postseason as 13th place mark in the 55 meter hurdles (8.15) was good enough for the Division III New Englands.
In the field, freshman Stephan Cawley (Dedham, MA) tossed 12th in the shot put (45-04.25) while first-year classmates Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, MA), Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, MA) and Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, MA) placed 11th (41-10.75), 12th (41-05.75) and 13th (41-03.75), respectively, in the triple jump.
Joseph also beat out his brother for 24th (23.65) as Joshua placed 25th (23.68) in the 200.
Sophomore Chris Szrom (Mansfield, MA) rounded out the squad with 35th place in the 400 (53.39).
Mensah's time was .03 seconds off tying the school record.
Next week the Bears will return to the Boston area to compete in their final meet this year at the Harvard Open Invitational.
