Men's Tennis Blanks Castleton, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 Little East Conference victory over visiting Castleton University on Monday at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 3-4 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the Little East, while the Spartans fall to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Bridgewater is 3-0 all-time versus Castleton as the two teams were meeting for just the third time since Castleton joined the LEC beginning with the 2018-2019 academic year.

The Bears swept the three doubles matches and captured each of the six singles flights.

The BSU senior tandem of Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, N.Y.) and Charles Fiske (Taunton, Mass.) posted an 8-1 victory at number one doubles, while graduate student Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and freshman Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-0 win at the second flight. The sophomore pairing of Charles Malinowski (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-3 decision at the third spot.

Ziegler (6-0, 6-0), Nutter (6-3, 6-4), Beatrice (6-1, 6-0), Fiske (6-3, 6-0), freshman Tyler Barros (Somerset, Mass.) and Malinowski (6-1, 6-0) each recorded straight set wins in singles competition at the first through sixth flights, respectively. Barros breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number five singles.

The Little East schedule continues tomorrow afternoon for both teams. The Bears travel to Rhode Island College to take on the Anchormen at 3:30, while the Spartans head to UMass Boston for a noontime match with the Beacons.
