WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Monday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.
The Cougars improve to 3-6 on the season with the win. The Bears, who were competing without their top two singles players, fall to 0-3.
Clark swept the three doubles matches and captured each of the six singles flights.
Sophomore Ryan Hovey (Newburgh, N.Y.), senior Matt Lee (Marlborough, Mass.), sophomore Aidan Hurtado (Atlanta, Ga.), freshman Sai Chanda (Ashland, Mass.), senior Joshua Ofusu-Amonai (Accra, Ghana) and sophomore Adrian Ramirez (Arlington, Va.) each recorded straight set singles wins for the Cougars at the first through sixth flights, respectively. Ofusu-Amoani edged BSU freshman Tyler Barros (Somerset, Mass.) in a tightly contested match at number five, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Hovey teamed with freshman Graham Russo (Bridgewater, Mass.) for an 8-3 decision at number one doubles, while freshmen Jacob Bernstein and Fergus Brady (Fayetteville, N.C.) paired up for an 8-2 triumph at the third flight. Hurtado and Chanda rounded out doubles' competition with an 8-5 victory at the second spot.
Bridgewater State opens Little East Conference (LEC) play tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 as the Bears welcome defending conference champion UMass Boston to the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. Clark entertains New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Springfield College on Wednesday afternoon also at 3:30.
