BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore Wesley Esthimer has been selected as the Little East Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while freshman teammate Alex McGannon earned LEC Rookie of the Week honors.

It is the third career conference player of the week award for Esthimer, while McGannon picked up his second straight rookie of the week award.

Esthimer posted a straight-set victory at top-flight singles to help the Bears blank Johnson & Wales University, 9-0, in their only match of the week.  The Franklin, Massachusetts product breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over his Wildcat opponent, while also teaming with junior Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-4 triumph at first doubles.

McGannon, who hails from Fairhaven, Massachusetts, improved to 2-0 on the young season as he posted a 6-4, 6-1 straight set triumph at fifth singles in the win over JWU.

In 16 matches over his first two seasons with the Bears, Esthimer has amassed a record of 6-10 in singles play competing exclusively at the top flight.  He is also 9-7 in doubles play with an 8-6 mark at first doubles.

The 2013 season continues on Tuesday afternoon for Esthimer, McGannon and the BSU men’s tennis team as the Bears host Southeastern Massachusetts rival Wheaton College at 3:30.
