Men's Tennis Falls to Little East Foe UMass Dartmouth, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth men's tennis team won five of six singles matches and two of the three doubles flights as the visiting Corsairs defeated host Bridgewater State University, 7-2, in a Little East Conference match at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

UMass Dartmouth improves to 7-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while Bridgewater State slips to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

UMass senior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, Mass.) teamed with junior Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, Mass.) for an 8-4 win at first doubles, while Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, Mass.) and freshman Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) posted an 8-5 victory for the visitors at the second flight.  BSU freshman Matt McLeod (Leicester, Mass.) and junior Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) gave the Bears their lone doubles point with an 8-5 triumph at number three.

In singles play, Rathlev breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top spot, while Dugas at the second flight (6-1, 6-2), Bejtlich at number three (6-2, 6-1), sophomore Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.) at the fourth flight (6-3, 6-1) and Chouinard at number five (6-3, 7-5) also won in straight sets.  BSU junior Eric Johnson (Kingston, Mass.) picked up the Bears' singles point with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at the sixth flight.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon in their regular season finales.  The Bears host Little East rival UMass Boston at noon, while the Corsairs entertain conference foe Western Connecticut State University at one.
