PAXTON, Mass.- The Anna Maria College men’s tennis team fell 9-0 to Bridgewater State College in a Division III non-conference matchup at The Paxton Sports Centre on Saturday night. This was the season opener for the Bears who now improve to 1-0, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 0-2 on the year.
After teaming up for an 8-0 victory in number one doubles, BSC sophomore Juan Ortiz (Asuncion, Paraguay) and senior Armindo Rocha (Brockton, Mass.) earned wins in their number one and number three singles matches, respectively.
Bears’ freshman Matt Mailhot (Oxford, Mass.), who won his number two singles match by the score of 6-0, 6-1, paired up with sophomore Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, Mass.) for an 8-2 win in number two doubles. Zagame went on to sweep his number five singles match 6-0, 6-0.
BSC sophomore Adam Laithy (North Smithfield, R.I.), a 6-0, 6-0 winner in number four singles, joined with junior Nicholas Amrose (Arlington, Mass.) to take their number three doubles match 8-0.
Junior Justin Lipomi (Lowell, Mass.) also contributed to the Bears’ victory, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win in number six singles.
The Bears will return to the courts on Tuesday when they travel to face Johnson & Wales at 6:00 pm. The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Gordon College in a TCCC matchup starting at 6:00 pm.
