BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior defender Olivia Galvin has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Galvin helped the Bears split a pair of matches last week. The Mashpee, Massachusetts native recorded a career-high four defensive saves in a 3-2 setback to Little East rival UMass Dartmouth. Earlier in the week, Galvin and her defensive teammates limited New England College to ten shots on goal, including just one in the first half, as the Bears coasted to a 5-2 win over the Pilgrims.
Galvin has started each of the last 32 games for the Bears as she currently has five defensive saves over three season at Bridgewater. Earlier this month, Galvin scored her first collegiate goal in a 4-0 home victory over Western Connecticut State.
This marks the second time this season that a BSU field hockey player garnered LEC Defensive Player of the Week honors as junior Maddie Burke (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also picked up the award on October 3rd.
The Bears' field hockey team is presently 13-2 on the season and in second place in the Little East standings with a 7-1 conference mark. In upcoming action, Bridgewater hosts LEC foe Salem State University on Wednesday night at seven followed by a Saturday matinee affair with conference rival Plymouth State University at noon.
