Rylan Secovich Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior centerfielder Rylan Secovich has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

A native of Southwick, Massachusetts, Secovich batted .533 (8-15) with eight stolen bases, six runs scored and an RBI in a 3-1 week for the Bears. He also walked three times and was hit by a pitch as he posted a .632 on base percentage, and flawlessly recorded six put outs and an assist from his centerfield position.

Secovich went 7-for-11 with six stolen bases, two walks, five runs an an RBI as the Bears swept a three-game MASCAC set with Fitchburg State University. He also went 1-for-4 with a walk, a pair of stolen bases and a run scored in a 7-3 conference setback to Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Through 13 games this season, Secovich is batting.500 (24-48) with a pair of doubles, two triples, five walks, 17 stolen bases, 17 runs and three RBI. He has also been hit by a pitch three times and checks in with a .561 on base percentage as well as a .625 slugging percentage.

Secovich currently leads the MASCAC in batting, stolen bases and on base percentage, and ranks second in hits. He is also tied for second among the conference leaders in triples, ranks fifth in runs and is tied for fifth in slugging percentage.

On a national level, Secovich is presently fourth in all of Division III in stolen bases per game (1.31) and tenth in batting.

 

The MASCAC Player of the Week accolade marks the first of Secovich's career.

Sevocich played two seasons at Dean College prior to transferring to Bridgewater State. In 60 games with the Bulldogs, he batted .347 (77-122) with 11 doubles, seven triples, 56 runs, 35 RBI and a school record 44 stolen bases.

The BSU baseball team is currently 8-5 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to Mass. Maritime on Tuesday afternoon for a four o'clock conference doubleheader with the Buccaneers.
