BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman lefthander Ethan Palmer has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week.
Palmer allowed just one unearned run on four hits over six innings with one walk and three strikeouts in an 8-1 MASCAC win on the road over Worcester State last week.
In seven appearances (two starts) on the mound for the Bears this season, Palmer is 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 1.50 earned run average over 18 innings of work. Opponents are batting just .176 against him and he sports a 1.11 WHIP.
The MASCAC Rookie of the Week accolade marks the first of Palmer's career. He is the Bears' third rookie of the week selection this season joining classmates Nick Berube (Swampscott, Mass.) and Logan Cormier (Athol, Mass.).
The BSU baseball team wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 27-8 (21-3 MASCAC). The top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament, the Bears will take on either fourth-seeded Anna Maria or fifth-seeded Westfield State University on Thursday afternoon at approximately three o'clock.
