Ryan Flaherty Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior third baseman Ryan Flaherty has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

Flaherty batted .385 (10-26) in a 4-2 week for the Bears with two doubles, two walks, a hit by pitch, three runs and 10 RBI to help clinch the MASCAC regular season title. The Duxbury, Massachusetts product also posted a .448 on base percentage and a .462 slugging percentage.

Flaherty went 4-for-9 with a walk, a run and three RBI in a MASCAC doubleheader split with Worcester State; 2-for-5 with a walk, two runs and two RBI in a non-conference setback to Wentworth; and 4-for-12 with a pair of doubles, a hit by pitch, two runs and five RBI in a three-game MASCAC series sweep of Anna Maria.

Through 35 games this season, Flaherty is batting .344 (45-131) with eight doubles, three home runs, 19 walks, 30 runs and 39 RBI. He also checks in with a .426 on base percentage as well as a .473 slugging percentage.

Flaherty currently leads the MASCAC in RBI and ranks in hits. He is also tied for ninth among the conference leaders in both doubles and home runs.

In 122 games over three seasons with the Bears, Flaherty has a career batting average of .332 (152-458) with 28 doubles, 26 home runs, 65 walks, 110 runs and 148 RBI. He also checks in with a career slugging percentage of .563 as well as a .415 on base percentage.

Flaherty ranks third on the Bears' all-time home run list, trailing only John Kiely (29, 1986-87) and Jay Doherty (27, 1989-92). He is also second all-time in runs batted in and tied for fourth in extra base hits (54).

The MASCAC Player of the Week accolade marks the third of Flaherty's career.

The BSU baseball team wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 27-8 (21-3 MASCAC). The top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament, the Bears will take on either fourth-seeded Anna Maria or fifth-seeded Westfield State University on Thursday afternoon at approximately three o'clock.
