Sean Riley Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior second baseman Sean Riley has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

Riley batted .471 (16-34) with three doubles, a triple, six runs scored and seven RBI during the Bears’ eight-game spring break trip to Vero Beach, Florida.  The Fairhaven, Massachusetts native recorded at least one hit in each of the eight games and posted six multi-hit games during the streak.

Riley went 4-for-8 with a double and four runs scored in a doubleheader split with Apprentice and was 2-for-5 with a stolen base and two RBI in a 5-4 win over Richard Stockton.  He also went 3-for-5 with a double in a 6-1 setback to St. Scholastica, and finished 5-for-10 with a double, run and four RBI as the Bears (4-4) split a pair of games with St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

In 53 games over two seasons at Bridgewater, Riley sports a career .390 (78-200) batting average with eight home runs, 28 doubles, seven triples, ten stolen bases, 58 runs scored and 47 RBI.  He also owns a .720 slugging percentage and a .461 on base percentage.

Last season, Riley was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-America Second Team after leading the Bears to both the MASCAC regular season and tournament titles and a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  He also garnered MASCAC Player of the Year honors and was an all-region selection for three different organizations; D3baseball.com, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA).

Riley batted .373 (62-166) in 2012 with eight homers, 25 doubles, six triples, 52 runs scored and 40 RBI.  He tied for the Division III lead in doubles and finished fifth in total bases (123), 15th in slugging percentage (.741), 24th in runs scored, 28th in triples and30th in home runs. Riley also set BSU single-season program marks for doubles, extra base hits, total bases (123) and games played (45).
