BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Framingham State University volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match on Tuesday evening at the Tinsley Center.
The Rams improve to 7-14 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC, while the Bears fall to 4-14 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Freshman middle hitter Brandey Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass.) paced the visitors with a match-high 12 kills and three blocks (three solo). Junior setter Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) dished out 30 assists and notched a pair of aces to go along with six digs. Freshman outside hitter Kelly Brinkman (Gardiner, N.Y.) checked in with ten kills, while freshman middle hitter Michaela Cronin (Hampden, Mass.) contributed eight kills, two blocks (one solo) and an ace.
Junior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) and freshman outside hitters Alexis Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Devan McNeill (Lakeville, Mass.) notched eight kills apiece for the Bears. Baril also tallied 12 digs. Freshman middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) recorded four kills and five blocks (four solo), while junior setter Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) notched 25 assists and BSU's lone ace of the match.
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair. With the score tied at 25-25, a Brinkman kill and Rodriguez block won the set for the visitors. In the second set, the Bears rallied from a 21-17 deficit and pulled to within one, 22-21, on a Baril kill. Rodriguez answered with a kill and a BSU attacking error made it game-point, 24-21. The Bears picked a kill by Baril out of a timeout, but a BSU error gave Framingham the set, 25-22. The Rams scored nine of the final ten points to win the third set, 25-17, after score was knotted at 16-all.
Both teams return to action on Thursday night at seven with non-conference games. The Bears travel to Salve Regina University, while the Rams host Newbury College.
