Women's Tennis Blanks Suffolk, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team downed visiting Suffolk University, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater captured all three doubles matches and won each of the six singles flights in straight sets as the host Bears improved to 4-0 on the year.  Suffolk slips to 0-2 on the young season.

Senior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) paced the Bears with a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles. She also teamed with senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-2 top flight doubles victory.   Hopp added a 6-3, 3-2 triumph at number five singles as her opponent retired in the second set..

Seniors Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) and Brittney Hislop (Burley, Wash.), freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) added singles wins for the Bears at the second, third, fourth and sixth flights, respectively.   Pereira and Hislop also paired up for an 8-2 victory at second doubles, while Vautrin and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) posted an 8-4 decision at number three doubles.

Through four matches this season, the Bears have won 35 out of a possible 36 flights and have posted three shutouts.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater will compete in the annual Newport Grass Court Double Tournament on Saturday at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.  Suffolk hosts Wentworth in a non-conference match on Thursday night at six.
