2011 All-Little East Conference Women's Tennis Team (PDF)
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore Jenna Williamson was honored as the 2011 Little East Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year this afternoon when the conference office announced its annual all-conference teams and major award winners.
Williamson helped Bridgewater State capture the program's first outright Little East regular-season championship and third overall from the number one singles and doubles position. The sophomore from Ludlow, Massachusetts is making her second appearance on the All-Little East, First Team after earning third-flight honors as a rookie. She won 11 of her 12 matches at top-flight singles in straight sets to post an overall mark of 12-2 with a perfect 8-0 record in LEC play.
Williamson dominated the conference circuit in 2011, needing just the minimum two sets in seven of her eight victories. She closed the campaign with a personal seven-match winning streak, including two straight-set victories in the 2011 Little East Championship Tournament to help the Bears advance to the finals.
Williamson combined with junior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) to earn All-Little East Second Team recognition in doubles play. The duo registered an 11-5 overall mark and a 7-1 record in the conference. Williamson was honored as the conference's top weekly performer twice on the campaign.
Joining Williamson on the All-Little East Team in singles play are freshman Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.), senior Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and junior Julie Kraby (Wrentham, Mass.). Flynn was selected to the first team at the sixth flight while Murphy and Kraby earned second team honors at the second and third flights respectively.
Flynn put together a terrific rookie campaign posting a 12-2 singles record including a perfect 8-0 regular season Little East mark. Murphy went 10-4 overall and 7-1 in the LEC, while Kraby finished 10-3 with a 7-1 Little East record.
Murphy and Kraby were also selected to the all-conference first team in doubles play as they teamed to post a 12-2 mark at second flight doubles with an unbeaten 8-0 mark in the Little East.
Rhode Island College freshman Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, Conn.) was selected as the Rookie of the Year in a vote by the Little East coaches. Salem State University skipper Joe Dunn, Sr. was tabbed as the Coach of the Year by his peers, while the Anchorwomen repeated as the Team Sportsmanship Award recipients for the second-straight season.
