Jenna Williamson Named Little East Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Jenna Williamson has been selected as the Little East Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.  Williamson also earned the honor back on September 27th.

A native of Ludlow, Massachusetts, Williamson went 3-0 in third singles play and 2-1 at third doubles to help Bridgewater State go 3-0 last week including a pair of conference wins over Plymouth State and Salem State.  The freshman's efforts helped propel the Bears to a share of the Little East Conference regular season title.

At number three singles, Williamson posted straight set wins over her opponents from Plymouth (6-1, 6-3) and Curry College (6-2, 6-1), and went three sets to knock off her opponent from Salem (6-4, 4-6, 6-4).  In third-flight doubles play, Williamson teamed with sophomore Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-3 triumph versus Plymouth and an 8-3 win against Curry.

Williamson is currently 12-1 on the season playing exclusively at number three singles, including an 8-0 mark versus Little East opponents.  In doubles action she is 11-5 overall with a 7-3 record at number three and 2-1 at the second flight.

Earlier this season, Williamson and Hopp become Bridgewater's first main draw finalists at the Newport Grass Court Doubles Tournament.

The Bridgewater State women's tennis team heads into the Little East Conference Tournament with an overall record of 12-1 with a 7-1 mark in conference play.  The Bears, who earned a share of the Little East regular season crown along with UMass Dartmouth, are seeded second at the tournament and have a first round bye.
